About me:
I have 4 parents who live in the USA and a step
sister in Mexico I've never met (my stepfather is
Mexican). Because my biological parents were
Korean immigrants to America with little English
ability, my first language was Korean. I speak
Korean now but it's conversational. I also speak
some Japanese and I've studied Dutch (but I can
only remember the song to a tv ad for a raunchy
hotline). When I was younger, I grew up with a
Greek family and I used to go to Greek festivals
and Greek camp and now I have a Mexican family on
my step-father's side. In my nuclear family, no 2
people speak the same language fluently. My mother
speaks Korean and struggles with her English, my
step-father speaks Spanish and struggles with his
English (he also studied Japanese in university),
and I speak English and struggle with my Korean.
In my larger family, since I have a lot of family
history in Japan, many of my family members speak
Japanese too so they speak to my step-father in
Japanese. They now are learning some Spanish to
meet him halfway. My aunt is Chinese and I speak
to her in English. I also have family in Italy as
my cousin is an opera singer. I love how
international my family is becoming.
I am intensely enamored by the arts (music, dance,
painting, illustrations, writing, DJ, ..anything)
and I have a growing relationship with my Nikon
D90 camera and I lust for my next snowboarding or
indoor rock climbing trip. I'm a Christian who
used to be Roman Catholic and attended Roman
Catholic school, went to Greek Orthodox Church,
and experimented with Zen Buddhism in university.
Now, I'm just Christian. If I had to choose the
beach or the mountain, I would 100% choose the
beach. I can't be anywhere where I can't access
the ocean but strangely, I have a slight fear of
the ocean.
I travel a lot. I've lived in the US, Korea, the
Netherlands, and now Japan.
I've traveled to Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, the
UK, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark,
Belgium, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Russia, India,
and Australia.
Since 1999, I've been interested in Sweden,
Finland, Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands for
their quality-based cultures (according to
sociologist Geert Hofstede) but I'm also
interested in DPRK, Russia, and Cuba because
people I know don't tend to travel there. I'd
really like to visit DPRK and Cuba someday. I'd
also like to go to Antarctica.
I'm just interested in seeing everything and every
country. In a perfect world, I'd have lived in
every country before I die. |
